US Master's Degree - Qualification question

Post by USAapplicant » Tue Oct 21, 2008 8:41 pm

I have a Master's Degree from the US but whe I put my university and degree information in the points based calculator I get 30 points if I say my degree is a Master's (Taught) and 35 if I say my degree is Master's (Research). Does anyone know what the following terms mean:

Master's (Taught)
Master's (Research)
Master's degree (Taught, with further specialisation from Bachelor programme) -- I have a baherlor's in Economics and an MS in business administration (not quite an MBA)

My Master's Degree required a dissertation and I am wondering if that qualifies as Research. Anyone run into the same problem?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

In the UK, the distinction is that taught masters typically involve 1-2 years of teaching with a dissertation, while research masters typically involve 1-2 years of research for a longer dissertation, and only very minimal teaching. I am fairly certain most US masters courses would be considered taught masters.

just send a copy (copies) of your degree(s) to UK Naric. It took about a month before I got the Letter of Comparability back.

I did my master degree from Australia and it is eqivalent to British Taught Master's Degree standard which I used this one to claim my 35 points

good luck
