The general advise is to not leave the job.
This issue has been clarified in a tribunal decision (Begum, I think) in which the tribunal ruled that date of application is the key date and not date of decision. Therefore, as along as the rules are met on the date of application, the application should not refused on this ground.
However, the decision maker may take a different view. S/he may refuse the application (wrongly) and it can then take (considerable) time to resolve the issue. So, it may be best to just stick with the job until the application is decided.
