Hi all,

Am an August 2019 applicant and this week got an email to say that I was missing a document (rather foolish of me). However I have now posted off the required document - has anyone been in this situation and if so how long was the turnaround / what was the process once the required document was received?

Thanks

Hi, has anybody considered sharing their FBR application numbers ( changing the numbers within a few digits to protect yourself)? It would help up get a better indication of where we are in the queue?

I am seeing several December people with emails acknowledging receipt of documents. This really worries me, as one of my documents was an original (a change of name deed from when I was a child, with a letter granting permission from my father, who is now dead) I cannot replace this if they have lost it.
I am seriously worried now. But no point in contacting them over the Christmas period as I doubt anyone is there. But my tracking shows as delivered on 18-11-2021 and I've had no email confirming :(

seriously, don’t worry if you haven’t received an email saying they’ve received your documents. i never received one, but contacted them on webchat and they assured me that they did indeed receive them. they are so overwhelmed with applications, the website says they do not reach out (it’s to cover their butts)

Hi all, nice to see people now getting their email confirmations.

I did read in one Irish newspaper that ministers are looking at hiring more people to reduce the processing time, hopefully, this will come to fruition.

I haven't received anything either (sent documents in Dec 20) so you are not alone.

Hello Everyone!

I am new to this site but I had a question regarding documents needed to process my FBR application.

As of the time of writing this, I have almost all of my documents in line. One document that I am not sure that I can obtain is my grandparents' marriage certificate. My family and I are pretty sure that my grandparents eloped out of state and then returned to New York and had a church ceremony afterwards.

I am claiming ancestry through my Irish maternal grandfather, so he never had a name change. Would I still need his marriage license? Upon review, his death certificate lists his spouse (my grandmother).

Thanks in advance!

Chris

Chris, if you can get a copy of the church marriage certificate with a raised seal that should be good enough. You could research where people went for quick (elope) marriages back then and there if you had the time. Elkton MD was a popular place in the mid-Atlantic but there were others.

What a strange article, if you're married to an EU citizen in most countries (including France I believe) you have the right to reside in the country where your EU citizen spouse is living. You just need to apply for a resident permit. I assumed that as a legal resident of a country (France, Italy, etc) you could get a job Maybe that is not necessarily true.

I think they don’t want to move to France until he can legally work. That was my take.

It’s not the fault of the FBR. They just left it too late. There was plenty of warning since the referendum in 2016. Lots of people moved to France (and no doubt other EU member states) in the final days and weeks of 2020. It’s certainly more complicated now. I have permanent residency in France as the spouse (unfortunately now widow) of a French citizen, having been resident before the end of 2020.

I feel a bit worried now as I sent mine not long after reopening on 18th Nov. Royal mail show tracked and delivered 22nd November but I haven't had any emails. Did everybody get a confirmation email?
I sent my kids (two in same packet, one was a child now an adult!) in March 2021, tracking showed received Balbriggan March 25th. I haven’t received any confirmation or email or anything. Not too bothered, everything we sent was a duplicate (original duplicate, lol) so we can wait it out without too much worry. Weird that December 2021 are getting acknowledgements though yeh.

Not that wierd, it's likely they just re-started sending out acknowledgement, but don't have the capacity to go back through the system and send acknowledgements for the backlog (which have likely just been added to a pile and slowly added to their computer system over the past 2 years).

Just posted my FBR application first class tracking. It should arrive tomorrow.

My two year wait officially begins. I’ll let anyone know if the confirmation of receipt email gets sent to me.

Good luck all!

A quick question - does anyone know if you need to send a marriage certificate if there is no name change?

I am married but have not changed my name and am applying through my father who did not change his name either.
I would say no need for it. If there has been no name change then there's no need to give them a piece of information that doesn't corroborate your story

The wording on https://www.dfa.ie/citizenship/born-abr ... ign-birth/ say to provide a document described below so indicates it is only to corroborate a name change:

"Original civil marriage certificate (if applicable) OR other change of name document (if applicable)"
I'm having trouble adding my name/dates to your spreadsheet - could you please help?

That's awesome, congrats. I'm getting the idea that the "2 years" the FBR is now saying is not going to really to happen at the moment. It's almost Jan 2022 and I haven't seen anyone from 2020 application get any kind of response. I'm January 2020 application and it seems highly unlikely mine will done at this rate, before April. Hopefully they're deploying the extra resources they talked about the clear the backlog.

We will see tho! Nothing to do but wait and hope they don't shut down the FBR again because of omicron.

I applied online early March 2020 and got a receipt of paper docs on 25th March 2020, literally just b4 the whole world shut down.
I’m hoping for a March 2022 approval but who knows

Hi everyone,

I'm applying for FBR through an Irish grandparent. I can either apply through my grandmother or grandfather, but I don't have a copy of their marriage certificate.

Is this needed if there's not been a name change? I'm wondering if applying through my grandfather (no name change) without the marriage certificate would be a problem.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Greg

You could make out an affidavit explaining this problem. Make sure to notarize it (or better -get it done by a lawyer if possible.)
Do you know any details on when & where they were married?

Does anyone know how far up to they are at processing applications at the moment? I received my acknowledgement of documents received on March 20th 2020 and I was just wondering how much longer it might be.
