Spouse Visa help with English test

Post by UKJPN » Tue Dec 28, 2021 2:13 pm

Dear All,

First of all, I would like to say a big thank you for all the help which was provided to me for getting my kids UK passports.

I did have an account on here with a different user name, but I was having trouble logging in and getting a re-set password. So I set up a new login.

Anyway back in October, I asked for help with my kid's UK passports. They are half Japanese/British,

it took me about 4 weeks to get my kid's passports, could not believe it! Very relieved when they were approved. it said 10 weeks..but was done in 4.

Anyway, now I have to get my wife's UK spouse visa. For some of you who might remember I was living in Japan and I moved back to the UK on December the 1st. I started my new job on the 6th. everything has been great...I have to work 6 months so prove the finances. but one thing I need to prepare is proof of my wife's English level.

It states on the gov website that she needs to take a UKVI test and meet level A1 CEFR

she is an English teacher in Japan and she has a teaching license and also passed EIken at level Pre 1 which is equal to B2 CEFR.

I understand that I would need to get a company to approve her grade, this company is called ECCTIS. My question is, Eiken is a Japanese language exam taken in Japan. can this be used for the visa? can ECCTIS provide a statement of comparability?

Not sure if anyone has heard of Eiken? in any case, It would seem silly if my wife has to take a test when she already has a higher level than what is required.

if anyone can advise, I would appreciate it. thank you

What was the other username??

She must do an English test that is on the UKVI approved test provider and test list. As far as I am aware "elken" is not in the list. Failing to submit an approved English test or degree assessed by ecctis, could result in visa refusal and loss of fees.

Thank you, it was jkrobs. but I cannot re-set the password. I never seemed to get a reset password email.

Your kidding...I guess there is a monopoly there to make money.

I will contact ecctis and see if they can advise further...

Thank you, my wifes Eiken English exam was taken in Japan.

so perhaps ecctis can advise me...

funny enough, Just found this..

The IELTS for UKVI administered by Eiken foundation of Japan is a paper-based test. If you would like to take the Computer-Delivered IELTS for UKVI, please apply from the British Council.

It would seem the UK government have agreed to use eiken in Japan to do UKVI test for the visa.

CR001 already give you a good information. Submitting the WRONG English test has been known to be the most common reasons for refusal of a spouse visa. It is either the English test is from the approved list which in this case IELTS is part of and if you submit EIKEN foundation certificate even if it was administered by IELTS, you can be refused. There's no need beating around the bush, since your partner is a English test then should either do an English test from the approved list or submit her degree with ETTIS assuming her degree was taught in English.

All the best.

If EIKEN is not a degree, there’s no point contacting ETTIS as you either need a degree taught in English at least.

Ecctis is for assessing degrees, ie bachelor, masters or PhD for visa purposes, as clearly stated on their website. The service is not for assessing a single test taken.

I forgot to ask,

Before I book the test, I wanted to ask...if it ok to book this test before I have completed my wife's Visa? I have completed it online, but have not submitted it/applied for it yet ( I will not be applying until June )

The test center is asking for her full name and passport number/ date of birth to match the application...but I've not submitted it yet, so was just wondering.

Thank you

Those are the requirements nothing to wonder about, provide the requested information to register for the test.

I'm not questioning the requirements,

to put it simply, can I book and take the test before I've even applied for the visa?

You are suppose to take the test BEFORE you apply for the visa. They are two separate things.

Dear all,

I have a different question to ask...

Regarding the Finances,

My original plan was I move to the UK, start my new job and apply for a visa in June, once I have been at my job for 6 months.

My wife currently works in Japan but will be quitting her job in March 2022 ( She has been doing that job for 2 years. The reason she is going to quit is that she is working at a school and it means she would have to start a new contract, but she would be leaving as soon as the visa is ready, so she had to inform them of this.

anyway, it mentions on the gov UK website:

You and your partner must have a combined income of at least £18,600 a year if:

Does this mean, My wife can prove her finances and combine them with mine? if she can use her finances, would it be ok if she is quitting in march? on the visa application it asks for her sponsor, that's me and it asks for my job details, how much I earn ect. but never asks about her job details

is there another way to speed things up and apply sooner do you think?

Her income is irrelevant to an initial spouse visa. Only your income counts.

Her job or no job abroad is irrelevant.

Joint income can be used further down the line for her extsnsion within the UK.

Unless you have substantial savings held for 6onths, there is no way to "speed things up".

Thank you,

sorry, I have savings spread out across different accounts.

but I have £15,000 saved up in premium bonds which have been there for over 6 months.

Can I use them as proof, if so...does it mean I can apply a little sooner?

I need to do the maths, but just checking

Savings of £16,000 or less are not counted or considered.

There is no shortcut cut quicker route in your circumstances you have exaplained.

Even if I did have savings, I would still have to wait 6 months anyway right?

My main income before tax is £31,000 a year. so I will just wait until June 6 to apply.

Thank you for your help.

Thank you so much.

If I started my job on the 6th of December 2021. Is it ok for me to apply for the visa on the 6th of June 2022. or will I be refused? that should be 6 months? I will get my 6th wage slip on the 23rd of May..so could I apply on the 23rd of may or 6th of June is better?

Thank you
