Common for all the new tier1 holders - Please answer

Post by regpass2k » Sat Nov 01, 2008 2:46 pm

I got my Tier1 VISA approved a few days back…. Now I m in need to find a job there in UK… I am having 6+ years of experience in Microsoft technologies which is contains 4+ years of .NET experience. I am currently working for an US based MNC as a Senior Analyst. Can any one of you please answer my below queries? The queries that I have mentioned here is common for all the persons who got their visa. So please take moment to clarify. It would be helpful for others too.

It seems there are lots of advertisements are coming in the UK job portals for my skill set. Can I apply through this? Is it really worth to do it? Since I m in India, I could not give any UK address and contact number. What I have to do in this situation? Is there any possibility to use the IP phones?

Is it advisable to go to a Job Consultant? If so how to contact the job consultants in UK? Any one of you can post a link.

What are all the things that I need to do after landing in UK?

What are the mandatory things to open a bank account in UK?

What is procedure to get the SSN?

Please answer

Regards

Let me answer few of the questions for you.

I believe that it will be difficult to find a job sitting back there in India. There are already so many candidates available here in the job market who are struggling to find a job.
There are few companies in India which might be hiring for UK.

One piece of advice - don't be misguided by the number of ads in job portals - many of them are not real.

Be careful in choosing the right time to come to UK. Year end is definitely not a good idea.

Opening a bank account - You can go to abbeys bank and they will open a basic account for you even though you don't have any credit history in UK. You just need one or two addess proofs and a photo ID like passport.

SSN - It is called as national insurance number in UK. Your employer will be applying for this for you. So you don't have to do anything in this regard.

Before landing in UK for first time remember to get your chest X-ray report.

Rest, nothing great to be taken care of, except for your stay arrangements.

This is not true mate - u sort ur own NINO out via jobcentre plus, and u'll usually need one before the employer will take you on. It's a formality needed an interview but still a pain in the arse.

Got my NI through employer. HR department mentioned that there are companies that do have access to a so-called fast lane NI processing and all you need to do fill upa form and submit them through your HR dept.

Saving the pain in the a*** for something else. :D
