Long-term visit visas (multiple entry)
Applicants for a Standard visitor visa may apply for a visit visa that allows multiple visits of up to 6 months at a time over a period of:
  • 2 years
  • 5 years
  • 10 years
You can issue a shorter duration visa if the applicant meets the Visitor rules relevant to their visit but you have concerns about issuing a long term visit visa. Entry Clearance officers must obtain the authority of the Entry Clearance Manager before issuing a visit visa of shorter duration than that applied for.

You must provide clear reasons for the decision to grant a visa for a shorter period than that applied for in a covering letter when the passport is returned.

In such cases no refund (full or partial) is available.
If they gave no clear reasons for the shorter period than that applied for, then politely ask them to correct the endorsement error.

If necessary, then complain, etc.

Hi Evicra,

I am in a similar situation where my father in law has been issued a 6 months visa when I applied for 10 years visa and no reasons have been provided. Can I please ask which process you followed out the 2 mentioned by Vinny? Can you provide sone guidance so I can also contact UKVI?

Regards

Thanks a lot Evicra for the detailed response. The response from UKVI sounds promising but as you said still doesn’t guarantee if they will change the duration of the visa and if so then how. I have also contacted them using the paid service and also via the compliant route. Will let you know if I hear back anything.

I have also applied for my mom for 5 years but have been approved only for 6months. I have emailed them through paid services and raised a complaint as well.
