Today marks 500 days since the FBR received my application in their offices.
Hang in there friend. It's a long process. I'd suggest putting it out of your mind until the end of the year. Good news is things seem to be moving now after so long stalled. Little over 2 years seems to be standard at the moment. I myself am at just over 2 years right now.

Unfortunately, every way to an Irish passport, be in naturalization in FBR, seems to be taking quite a while. Even naturalization applications seem to take 2 years or so.

Slow and steady wins the European passport.. I'm not to bothered by the wait. I check this forum a few times a week just to stay excited and its working pretty well - I can't believe its been over a year since I applied already. It's very fun seeing everyones updates.

Our applications were received by FBR on the same date. Mine app was submitted on Sept 25, 2020, and email confirmation of documents received was Oct 7, 2020. Looks like we should be on the same timeline. Best of luck!!

yup, that's exactly it. Seems like a lifetime ago when I mailed my documents and FBR was closed for sooo long. Just great it's finally open and things seem to be moving. You'll have it before you know it! This forum has been great thing for me as well. Cheers!

I can't believe i'm finally writing this, but my application has been approved!!!

My timeline for anyone interested:
Online application submitted: 15/04/19
Application & documents received: 14/10/19
Request for additional documents & address confirmation: 24/1/22
Documents sent: 5/2/22
Documents received: 8/2/22
Accepted onto FBR: 21/2/22

I must say, once I was contacted for additional documents, the person I was dealing with replied to any email queries almost instantly, and was really helpful. I didn't get the big 'congrats' email though - after not hearing anything since my documents arrived in Dublin, I chased today and was told my application was approved last week (no date given). So i'm classing today as my official date, and i'm just so happy!

Great to see 2020 applicants starting to be accepted. Hang in there everyone, I was 2 years, 4 months and 7 days!!

Best wishes to all! Ax

"However we then discovered the recent EU decision that the days spent in the EU with their spouse who is an EU citizen don’t count towards the 90/180 days, only days spent in the EU on their own. So that meant my application on its own would be enough."

Ooh, this is interesting... Do you have a link to this decision anywhere?

Hi
I would like to apply for the FBR.
My mum is adopted.
My grandmother who adopted her was born in Belfast.
Mum does not have an Irish passport and is not on the FBR.
Mum is reluctant to give me originals or certified copies of documents.
I think I will have to gather my own copies.
I can't seem to find out what documents are needed when a parent is adopted. Obviously I need to send some documentation related to my mum to prove the link.
I refer to the list of documents for 'Adult applicant applying on the basis of an Irish born Grandparent'.
Below this the documents seem to relate only to the Irish citizen parent (which my mum isn't).
It also says unless stated, originals must be submitted. We only have certified copies of most documents.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you for reading!

Certified copies of original documents issued by GRO government websites are "original" documents. An adoption certificate from nidirect or gov.uk would prove link between your grandmother born on the island of Ireland & her adopted daughter who would be considered an Irish citizen. No need for an FBR for her. Your mum is an Irish citizen, even if she doesnt realise it.

Seems an EU citizen (Irish passport holder) can travel with their UK spouse and the uk spouse isn’t bound by the 90/180 Brexit rule

Nice to know

Thank you so much for that information, which is excellent news for me. Assuming there are no hitches, when I become an Irish citizen my British husband and I will be able to spend long summers in France without applying for the long-stay visas every year. As we live in Australia that means no more winters for us - happy days!

Thank you very much for this. I am hopefully only a couple of months away from becoming FBR approved (Feb 2020 & counting).

Indeed, I'm Feb 14, 2020. Hoping to have mine by June, maybe quicker based off of some of the recent approvals being closer to 24 - 26 months.

Curious, I live in California so I'm 8 hours behind Dublin time.

Has anyone seen the Live Chat on the DFA page back online at all?
