Standard requirements for naturalisation wrote:Breach of immigration laws during residential qualifying period

You must have been in the United Kingdom legally throughout the residential qualifying period. We may refuse your naturalisation application if you have breached the immigration laws during the residential qualifying period.

If you came to the United Kingdom as an asylum applicant, you would be considered in breach of the immigration rules if your application for refugee status and any appeals were refused during the residential qualifying period. You would also be in breach of the immigration rules if you entered the United Kingdom illegally and obtained refugee status during the residential qualifying period.

Hi,

Recent updates on BIA website state that citizenship bill is being put in parliament in January 2009 for approval. If bill approved, will this bill be implemented immediately (January 2009)? I am currently on settlement visa (ILR) status and will be eligible for naturalization in March 2009. Can I still be eligible to apply for naturalization in March 2009 even new bill gets approval from parliament & implemented or I need to do some social / community extra work…...bla bla ........I am currently working full time and hardly get anytime for such work & need to look after own kids in spare time ?
Please advise how this new bill can affect me & similar other members?

It normally takes some months for a piece of legislation to pass through all stages of Parliament. I would have thought that the Life in the UK Test syllabus should include this information.

 Hi All,

To gain British Citizenship there are specific things you must comply with for instance you have to have been working full time for a period of twelve months. If you are self employed other rules apply.

If it is of interest visit [link deleted by Moderator] the rules apply to all European nations.

Sorry, there is absolutely not a requirement for anyone to be employed, or self-employed, for any time at all before making their applications.

There are lots of rules to consider, but that is not one of them.
