Naturalisation application raises exceptionally complex issues

Post by Mistamohy » Tue Mar 01, 2022 7:24 pm

Hello, can any one guide me regarding the following email which I had received by the home office regarding my naturalisation application.

“We aim to process all applications within 6 months from the date submitted. However, in certain circumstances this target is not possible. Following our assessment of your case, unfortunately it appears your application will not be processed within the 6 month target.
This is because your application raises exceptionally complex issues and we require further time to consider your case thoroughly and reach a decision.
We expect to make a decision on your application soon, but we will write to you again if this is not going to be possible.
Yours sincerely
Nationality Technical Specialist Team Home Office”

My timeline for naturalisation is:
8/10/2021 application submitted.
15/10/2021 biometrics done.
I am not sure about it’s outcome would be as it seems to be concluded or refused? Is it a system generated email?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey, I got the exact same email on Sunday.

I applied on 10th September 2021. My case isn't complex at all, but I have been told in another forum that these emails have been sent for years as an excuse for their delay. For the last 2 years, there have been sending a Covid related email, but as it can no longer be used, they have reverted to the old template.

I have been told not to worry, and to sit tight and wait. 6 months after your application, you can start to chase this by writing to UKIV and your MP, or by making a complaint.

It's very frustrating that they use such wording, as it feels like we have done something wrong that forced them to delay the decision. It probably has nothing to do with us, and more to do with external checks they carry out on random applications. I have read that in some cases they check with HRMC or other government agencies (DVLA, etc), and these can take a long time to reply.

Anyway, I wish you good luck and hope you get a reply soon!

Thanks for taking time to reply on this post. It’s very frustrating to see delays with no substantial reasons. I have a very clean immigration history along with no points or penalties on my DVLA record nor have any dubious HMRC accounts as I wasn’t self employed and was paid significantly well through out my employment.
On the other hand, I’m also a bit surprised to see that none of the members come forward to put their valuable advice or experience regarding this issue which I’m facing right now.
Can any one explain here what can be the exceptionally complex issues interms of “ HO” dictionary?
I’m hoping that other valuable members would take time to add their advice on this post.
Thanks

My application took 8 months to get approved. After 7 months i contacted my MP and after a month my MP confirmed that my application was approved. Along with MP, i raised a complaint using UKVI website, they replied back after 20 days that my application was approved. Try contacting your MP, it might expedite the process.

Good luck

I have also just received the same email today. We have similar time lines. I hope it’s nothing to do with our application and just a generic email. Best of luck all.

It is a generic email, sent to just about every applicant where the decision is not made within six months.

I have also just received the dreaded "your application raises exceptionally complex issues" email with similar timeline - applied back in October 2021.

I could only hope that this is a generic delay email due to the large volume of applications from the Ukraine crisis.

I received the same email too.
I'll wait another 4 weeks and if there are no further updates I'll call the number mentioned on the email.
My last resort will be to contact my MP.

Looking previous replies and at my own case, it seems that the email notification gets triggered if your case has not yet been decided after 170 days since application submission.

It's a standard email - best to wait for your approval which might even be in process right now.
The previous poster advised that he was approved.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
