First Time Passport Application- documents required

Post by Ellie123 » Thu Mar 17, 2022 11:31 am

Hi there
I have two questions or so on the documents the passport office requires.

When you apply for first time Irish Passport (based on naturalisation) they ask for proof of addresses to
Prove the name and address. As well they need marriage certificate if the surname is from the marriage.

Is it okay to print utility bills or even revenue documents from online? Are they acceptable?

Also, if you do not have your marriage certificate from back home what explanation can you give them about this?

We do not have it for many years as its lost and I have not had a chance to go after this. We never had to really have our marriage certificate for other occasions (even when it was required at times, we said we do not have it as its lost) and it was always fine.

Thanks :)

Utility bills and revenue letters - yes statements printed off online are fine.

Marriage certificate - no personal explanations can be accepted, especially that you have changed your surname after marriage. A marriage certificate is the only accepted proof of this.

You have to get a replacement certificate. Alternatively you can check with your own country’s embassy to see if they can issue you with some sort of statement instead, but there is no guarantee that the passport office will accept that.
