BRP expiration

Post by moris » Fri Apr 22, 2022 8:37 pm

Dear All,

My child has a ILE/ILR visa with a BRP card and came into UK but their BRP has a expiry date, when enquired with BRP office they replied that BRP was issued with passport expiry time line.

In this case can we renew the BRP before passport renewal?
Can they travel out of UK and come back with 3 months Valid BRP?
Any suggestions and help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

BRP going forward will be replaced by something else in the future. ILE is normally issued in line with the expiry date on the passport but ILE does not itself expire. There's no problem travel abroad

Thank you TODMATT for your kind reply, so to renew the BRP in our case how, when and what is the best way to do?

Also I assume that spending time (living in UK) on ILE for 1 year, will they be eligible for applying for naturalisation ? If so then can I just leave BRP (valid till August 2022) without renewing it and go for naturalisation in January 2023 (by then my child will have spent 1 year in UK)

Please correct and guide me if my understanding and thinking of this process is not right.

Look forward to hearing from you soon

Best wishes

When does your child turn 18? Your posts last year stated the child was already almost 17 years old when you were applying for ILE.

Because your child is older, they require at least two years residence before they can apply for citizenship.

Once the child turns 18, they have to have 5 years residence and meet all the standard requirements as an adult.

Ok. But does 1 year after ILE not apply for my child? Are there any reasons? As adults can apply for citizenship after 1 yr spent on ILR ?
Could you please clarify

Adults require 5 years residence which must include 1 year on ilr.

Your child has been in the UK for less than a year so doesn't qualify for citizenship.
