I have a 10-year visitor’s visa. Would applying for Tier 2 cancel my Visitor’s visa?

I have a 10-year visitor’s visa. Would applying for Tier 2 cancel my Visitor’s visa?

What about vice versa? If I have a Tier 2 visa and then go on to also apply for a visitor’s visa just in case for when I quit the job but still want to visit the UK. Will this invalidate anything?

Thanks!

Yes it will, either way. You cannot hold two uk visas at the same time.

Yes. However, it’s unclear what happens if they didn’t cancel the visitor entry clearance?

Biometric authentication at UKBA will not allow you to use both. One of them will be cancelled.

Thank you

Visa gives you permission to enter and not a right. There are many what if situations. Pandemic - visitor visas were suspended for many countries. You can't be a visitor and resident at the same time. You can apply for a visitor visa at the end of 5 years.

If you get a work visa, the visitor visa that you currently have is cancelled and replaced by the work visa.

If your work visa expires, you need to leave the UK and reapply for another visa for which you are eligible.Any earlier visa does not revive.

And after a work visa, where you have demonstrated a desire to reside in the UK rather than merely visit, you may find it harder to get a visit visa. You could get a visit visa if you can show that you want to visit the UK to wind down activities that you had started while you were residing in the UK (shift house, ship stuff abroad, etc).
