Child born in Italy from a British father

Post by VinGam » Wed Aug 31, 2022 7:53 am

Hello,

I have been a British citizen since 2017.
I live in the UK, but my wife (Not BC) and my daughter (BC) live in Italy.
We recently had another daughter born in Italy.

Could my new daughter apply for a British Passport? What's the procedure? Will it be British Overseas meaning that she won't be able to pass the British Citizenship to her children?

Thanks in Advance.

Hi,
This seems to apply to your situation (I assume you naturalised)

Yes your daughter can apply directly for a British Passport. Apply at the closest Embassy in Italy, there should be an online procedure for this.
Not British Overseas, but she would be British by descent.
She cannot pass it on to kids born outside UK. But if they are born on UK soil, then they are British otherwise by descent as well.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

Did you acquire your British citizenship by naturalisation (after living in the UK for five years and PR)? Or did you have some other claim to British citizenship?
