Passport after letter of approval

Post by Gallagheria » Mon Oct 24, 2022 11:18 pm

I was born in the US to a British mother before 1983, and applied to register as a British citizen in July. I just got a letter saying I was approved, and to now wait for my invitation to attend a ceremony where I will receive my certificate of citizenship.

Do I go ahead and apply for a passport now, or do I need to wait until after I get the certificate?

You only become a British citizen after attending the citizenship ceremony.

At the ceremony, you will be handed a registration certificate, which you will need to apply for a British passport.
