Fiancé Visa - Can you change wedding venue?

Post by trandy » Thu Nov 17, 2022 3:50 pm

Just need some input on the fiancé visa.

It's counting down to the time when we can apply and we gather we need evidence of intent to marry. But we feel a bit rushed as we're not quite sure what our situation will be by the time the visa is granted. Was hoping to book something preliminary and change it if need be closer to the wedding.

But someone at the registry office said that if you do that you invalidate something or other. We can change the date but not the venue. Is that correct?

You can change either the date or the venue, once you have the visa issued and she is here the HO won't know or care.

I think this is for when you both give notice of marriage at the register office. After giving notice, you cannot change the venue of the wedding, only the date. This is normal process and has nothing to do with the home office. If you really want to, you can still give a new notice, but this could delay the wedding as you have to give notice at least a month before.

So it'd be best to get the venue sorted before giving notice. It doesn't matter if it's different venue from what you said in your initial fiancé application, but I would still write a letter explaining the reasons when applying for spouse visa after the wedding.
