Requirement to send foreign passport with application for IE passport

Post by dballing » Thu Dec 22, 2022 3:19 pm

The documentation says to send our foreign passport "if we have it" with our application for an initial Irish passport.

As we have some travel coming up (quite a bit of it) and will be out of the country for a while, we didn't want to risk not getting our US passports back before the travel starts. The passport office, when we called them, said we could just send them a Garda-certified photocopy of the passports and that would be grand.

Does anyone have any first-hand experience in how this has worked out for them in the past?

Should be fine, I just did this myself from California. Just take it to a notary public. Had no issues.
