British passport for foreign born child

Post by citizen2b » Sun Feb 12, 2023 7:17 am

Hi friends

I'm soon going through the citizenship ceremony and becoming British.

My wife ( non British) is abroad and is expecting a baby in April .

When is the earliest I can apply for a British passport for my child ?

Why do some people apply for a certificate of abode instead of the British passport?

If born after you attend your ceremony, you can apply immediately. Not sure why you belive you have to wait a certain time.

Because British passports from abroad can take between 6 months and a year. Coa takes a few weeks but costs a lot more and rhe child needs a foreign passport first.
