FBR application

Post by dordm001 » Sun Feb 26, 2023 10:26 am

Hi there,

I am just starting out on my research into registering myself on the FBR. My grandfather was born in Ireland, so I believe I qualify, but my father is not registered on the FBR. Does he have to do so first, or can I apply just for myself without him being registered?

Any help is appreciated!!

I believe you're D in the scheme ("Child of C and a grandchild of A, born outside the island of Ireland"), so go ahead with FBR.

Thanks! The only problem is, that when I try to start the application when inputting my father's details it asks me to put his FBR registration number and date of application etc, and then the section to input my grandfather's details that section is greyed out and I cannot click on it.

I am just left very confused whether my father has to register first or not

He doesn't; he should be Irish by descent. FBR folks will explain how to go with the online form, but you should be grand as is.

Also see post2043389.html#p2043389 and thread in general, which might help.

Thanks!!

Just to check, does my father have to apply for citizenship before I can apply to be on the FBR?

Sorry, I don't mean citizenship, I mean does he have to get his Irish passport before i can apply?

No he doesn't. I applied through my maternal grandmother. My mom is an Irish citizen automatically same as your father. Mom mom has never had an Irish passport. It's not required for your FBR. You're just providing evidence linking you to your Irish born grandfather and you're good.

I see what's happening, on the first page "General" you should be selecting the first option, "Born abroad to a parent born in Ireland" because it's referring to your father, not you. Everything else should be straight forward from there.
