i submitted my application in May 2007. it was my second time to submit citizenship application. the first time i submitted the application was in march 2007. they sent back the whole application to me by register post because i did not fill out the declaration form correctly. the second time after i submitted in May 2007. A month after in June 2007, they gave me a acknowledgment letter stating that my application has been place in queue and it will not process within 30 months. soooo when they gave me the acknowledgment letter, does it mean they have done the initial checking that you mentioned?LuasPassenger wrote:My reading is that they're indeed looking at mid 07 applications. But they're only checking if they're complete, correctly filled out and whether they fulfil basic requirements. That way, they can return failed applications ASAP.
A mid 07 application that fulfils the basic criteria and is correctly filled out and is complete will be looked at again in late 2009 and probably will be approved in 2010. So it will still take 3 years to complete.
I actually do think the average time of 23 months is correct. Suppose that 50% of the applications submitted in a year are incorrect: then this 50% of the applications will be "processed" (i.e. rejected) within 1 year, the other 50% of the applications will be processed and approved in the normal processing time (3 years). The average is still 2 years.
So I think that average counts both valid and invalid applications. Obviously, invalid applications are quick to process, so they bring the average down.
Instead of publishing the Average Processing Time, they should publish the Average Approval Time.
yes he was asked for P21s and the bank statementsmktsoi wrote:just wondering. did DOJ ask him for additional documents?strongbow wrote:Heybabyy,
I'm not so sure about the processing times. I know of one guy who had applied in jan '07 (yes 2007, not 2006) on the basis of living and working in Ireland for 5 yrs and he got his approval a couple of weeks back.
I think so. And I think your first application counted as a fully processed (but rejected) application. Its processing time was of 2 months, which brings the average processing time down.mktsoi wrote: (...)

Can you tell us when did they ask him for the P21 ?strongbow wrote:yes he was asked for P21s and the bank statementsmktsoi wrote:just wondering. did DOJ ask him for additional documents?strongbow wrote:Heybabyy,

Source: http://debates.oireachtas.ie/DDebate.as ... 26&Page=29266. Deputy David Stanton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of applications for citizenship being processed; the average time it takes to process an application for citizenship; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [43362/08]
Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Deputy Dermot Ahern): There are currently 15,600 applications for naturalisation with the Citizenship Division of my Department that are still awaiting a decision. The number of applications which were made more than 18 months ago is 6,400 and of these 30% (1,900) are on hold awaiting a response from the applicant and 44% (2,800) are awaiting a response from other statutory bodies as part of the normal applications checking process.
Following the recent decentralisation of the Citizenship Division to Tipperary Town, substantial resources have been made available to it in order to reduce backlogs and provide a better quality service to all applicants. This has had a positive impact on processing times and the average time from application to decision for the generality of valid applications is now at 23 months. It is expected that this will progressively improve over the coming year and the Division is currently commencing further processing of applications received in mid 2007. A significant number of applications are initially found to be invalid for a variety of reasons and these are now being dealt with and returned to the applicant within a week. More complicated cases can at times take more than the current average while an element of straight forward cases are now being dealt with in less than that time scale.
The Deputy will appreciate that there is a limit to the reduction in the processing time that can be achieved as applications for naturalisation must be processed in a way which preserves the necessary checks and balances to ensure that it is not undervalued and is only given to persons who genuinely satisfy the necessary qualifying criteria.
well this is only cause she is married to EU national, so she have exception. as for the normal applications the last we heard was approval for ppl applied late 2005 or early 2006Fionn wrote:Updates:
I heard of a person today (Russian) who applied on the basis of 5 years residency, married to a EU national living in Ireland but not Irish.
She applied in Mai 2007 (Yes 2007) and she got her approval yesterday.
She didn't try to expedite her apllication at all..so she was very surprised when she got the approval.
The information about applications from Mid 2007 being processed i not wrong after all!
There is light at the end of this tunnel..
Nope. I'm married to an Irish citizen and applied on the same basis but haven't got it yet (nearly 30 months now).Dublin1 wrote:well this is only cause she is married to EU national, so she have exception. as for the normal applications the last we heard was approval for ppl applied late 2005 or early 2006Fionn wrote:Updates:
