Application submitted February 2019 and confirmed receipt in March 2019.
Contacted by dfa in June 2022 for further evidence and this was submitted July 2022 and no further contact. I have called twice and emailed three times without response.
https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/debates/qu ... 04-18/143/ suggests applications should be processed within 6 - 9 months of documents received, this may or may not include further documents and these may be the average times rather than a general commitment.

As it looks like August 2022 applications are getting address confirmation now, wondering if anyone has been waiting longer than 9 months? My docs were received beginning of June 2022 and still have not heard anything since. Debating if I should try contacting them if it gets to a year.

Yes, I received confirmation that my son's application had been received 5th May 2022. I then received an email asking for updated photos on 22nd February 2023 and they signed for the new photos on 8th March. I followed this up with emails to see if the person requesting the photos at DFA had received them, but she kept telling me they weren't in the system. No further updates. 11 months and counting.

Hi, long-time watcher of this forum.

I submitted my application: 09/08/22
A confirmation email of received documents: 12/08/22

I have recently been expecting a reply as they are now up to August 2022. Today I got an email saying,

"Your application and supporting documentation for your application for Foreign Birth Registration has now been received."
"The processing fee has not been paid on your application and this is now due."

So I have gone forward with the payment. I was wondering, will this push my application to the back of the queue as it states "supporting documents received"?

Thanks.

It sure seems like they're using any reason to deprioritize incomplete applications.
I have to wonder if this is a response to meet some metric of improving turnaround times. I suppose the metric is only for applications that don't require them to contact the applicant for additional documents or payment, etc. So they can safely set them aside and move on to something that does matter to the metric.

My paperwork arrived at the FBR office on April 3rd and I got an email from them on the 12th indicating it was being processed, I saw a post in March with a similar 9-10 day turn around

Good news! I have just had my address check through, so it seems like it did not delay the process.

Yes, I wonder if this might be the case. I submitted what I thought was a fairly strightforward application for my son last year, receipt acknowledged 5th May 2022. I had a request for updated photos on 22nd February 2023 and they signed to ackowledge receipt of the new photos on 8th March. If there had been any other issues I would have thought that they'd have flagged these when they emailed in February. Instead, they have had the new photos for eight weeks with no detectable progress. That said, the person you quoted has now updated to say that they have been moved onto the next step so who knows?!

That's great news! Meanwhile, I was asked for updated photos of my son in February and they received those eight weeks ago. They didn't ask for any more information when they emailed, nor did they flag any issues, but there's been no further progress. Very frustrating!

The table below shows the change in processing time over the past 4 years based on the posted data (link below)

For example, in 2019 for 121 applications received, it took 20.7 months to go from "documents received" email to "address confirmation" email. Compare that to 2 applications received in August 2022, it took 8.7 months to get their "address confirmation" email.

2019 121 20.7
2020 141 26.9
2021 39 15.9
Jan-22 10 11.7
Feb-22 9 11.2
Mar-22 10 10.8
Apr-22 8 10.1
May-22 7 7.9
Jun-22 15 9.0
Jul-22 4 8.3
Aug-22 2 8.7

In a nut shell, this is showing a 3 month drop (11.7 to 8.7) in average processing time in last 8 months .

Note:
* I broke out the per month figures for 2022 to look at the trends over the most recent months
* Not a ton of recent data points (Just 4 for July 22, 2 for Aug 22) so not really statistically signifiant
* Applications received in Aug 2022 are receiving their "address confirmation" email now , hence Sept 22 to May 23 are not listed.
* Used the data posted here
* I excluded the tail of the processing since it appears to be fairly consistent and its much shorter, it takes 2-4 weeks after "address confirmation" email to get the "application accepted" email and another 2-4 weeks to receive the actual FBR certificate in the post

My intuition (from following the data for the last few years) is that this has become more volatile.

It used to (mostly) go from address check to congrats in a week or so. Often same day or next day. And then cert received 1-2 weeks later.

Recently there has been a bottleneck with printing the certs, and it seems that was being handled inconsistently. Either delaying the "congrats" email several weeks until the cert was printed, or sending the congrats email and then not seeing the cert for longer than expected.
It would be interesting to see the change over time in the duration from "address check" to "cert received" but the spreadsheet doesn't show that directly.

Anyway, link to spreadsheet in my signature. You're all welcome to add yourselves.

So your intuition is telling you that the printing effort might take a week or two more than it has in the past, for a paperwork process that takes around a year from submitting online app to actually having a passport in your hand....who cares?
