Biometric Residence Permit renew - missing documents

Dear respected members,

I am helping a friend with his BRP renewal.
He got ILR in June 2013 and got separated in 2015. For this period he does not have any documents at all.
He was not working, did not have a GP, no bills, no bank account. He was supported by his spouse and his spouse managed everything.
He started working in Mar 2015 and has enough documents thereafter.

Could you please help me with the following questions:

1. For the period June 2013 to Mar 2015, he has 2 UK entry stamps on his passport (one for 2013 and one for 2014). Is this enough proof?

2. Should he write a letter explaining the reason for not having any documents at all for the period June 2013 to Mar 2015?

In the end we wrote a letter explaining the reasons and we also mentioned the entry stamps.
New BRP issued without problems.
