Upon reading the facts on the UK Border Agency site, we've found that is not necessary to apply for the EEA1...it is completely voluntary. Is this information correct?
We were a little confused as we are in the process for applying for the EEA2 and based on several cases on this site, many of you are sending both applications when it isn't necessary. This may be a cause for delay in the processing time for the EEA2 application guys, because you are sending them to two separate offices!
To top things off, the passports are being separated and you have to wait until you receive the passport back from the EEA1 application in Croydon and re-send it to the EEA2 Liverpool office...obvious delays will occur here, since it takes approximately 3 weeks to receive documents back from the EEA1 application.
Even more delays will occur if you don't send a cover sheet indicating why you are not sending the original documentation in the EEA2 application, as the EU National's passport is a document neccesary to process the application!
Mind you, they also accept the EU National's ID card for either application, but if you are going my the EU National's passport as the form of documentation, then you will have obvious delays in processing times!
If the information we found on bia is correct, then there is no point in sending the EEA1 application during the processing of the EEA2, which seems to be a more important priority, as many employers are not aware that Non-Eu Family members have the legal right to live and work permanently in the UK.
Please help to clarify this info.
