BRP return address - which one?

Post by KM0170 » Sat Oct 07, 2023 3:58 pm

Hi everyone,

I need to return a BRP for my spouse who got citizenship recently.

There is an address in the email which says:

"Once you have received your certificate of British citizenship any Biometric Residence Permit (BRP card) you have will no longer be valid and cannot be used as evidence of your status. If you have a BRP card you should return it for secure destruction. You may have to pay a penalty of up to £1,000 if you fail to return an invalid BRP.

Your BRP card should be cut in half and posted (in a windowless plain envelope) to Biometric Product Returns, IFB, 5th floor Lunar House, 40 Wellesley Road, Croydon, CR9 2BY. The postage is not refundable.

If you have any travel documents issued by the Home Office, including expired documents, they should be returned to the Home Office in the same envelope for official cancellation.

If you hold refugee status in the UK, you will lose this status once you become a British citizen."

On the website (https://www.gov.uk/apply-citizenship-sp ... ertificate):

"After you get your certificate
You must send your biometric residence permit (BRP) back to the Home Office within 5 working days of getting your certificate of British citizenship.

Cut your BRP into 4 pieces and put it in a windowless envelope.

Include a note saying you’re returning your permit because you’ve become a citizen. Include your name, date of birth and the document number (found on the front of the card) in the note.

Naturalisation BRP Returns
PO Box 195
Bristol
BS20 1BT

"

Which one to use?

Thanks

We haven't seen any evidence of applicants receiving fines. Someone reported being fined but never substantiated that report.
