Do you have to provide your birth certificate for OCI?

Post by Art87ee » Thu Oct 26, 2023 9:53 pm

For an Indian-born person, who previously held an Indian passport, is providing a birth certificate issued in India mandatory for the OCI application?

I am seeing a set of documents published online but the list seems to vary somewhat from site to site.

Also, there seems to be a requirement to provide a school-leaving certificate for those who studied in India?

The lost of documents varies because the circumstances under which people can apply are various as well.

Indian citizens who acquired British nationality applying OCI shortly after naturalisation can normally get OCI with just their Indian passport.

However those applying based on parents/grandparents must evidence their relationship and birth certificate is the only reliable proof. In addition they must also evidence that the parents/grandparents did not become ineligible at any point (by moving to PK etc).

First time I am reading that school certificate being asked.
