Travel question

Post by domink27 » Wed Nov 08, 2023 4:54 pm

hi,

I applied for my naturalization in July'23, biometrics given on 7th July. Haven't heard back yet and obviously it's within the 6 month timeframe.

I had a question about travel while my application is pending. I'm planning to leave the UK for 3 weeks in December over the Christmas break. Could someone please clarify the rules around travel and re-entry please

1. What if i get the approval before my travel date (9th Dec) but dont have enough time to get a British passport, can i delay my oath taking to mid Jan and travel on my existing passport and ILR

2. What if i get the approval while I'm out of the country - can i reenter with the ILR

I've done a couple of searches - but was confused by the answers. I know i have to take the oath within 90 days, that's fine - my question is can i travel in between getting approval and taking the oath on my ILR

many thanks for all your help

1) it depends on your local council and availability.

2) you're British only after you've taken part in the ceremony, which will happen after your return, not when your naturalization is approved. Until then, you're an ILR holder, so you can return fine.
