Defined COS - Delays

Post by Sproutacus » Sat Nov 25, 2023 11:05 am

Hi all.
I'm waiting for a Defined COS (for a senior healthcare worker) submitted on the 7th of November. It's been UNDER REVIEW ever since, but we've had no emails, and now it is coming up to the 3rd week of waiting. Does anyone know why? Or is anyone waiting a similar time?

Thank you.

How do you expect forum members to know? Even if others are waiting maybe similar situation but may not be exact.

Others will definitely know since decisions are usually made by the next day.

Health sector DCOS care worker requests are under a heavy amount of scrutiny and are not being processed as readily as once was. It is unusual not to have received a request for information in the interim in the timescale you mention.

Hello. Have you got any updates? Would be very useful to know what happened subsequently. Many thanks

Employer here; we requested several Defined CoSs for Health & Social Care Workers at end of Oct/early November (prev issued on next working day). Considerable delay until late November; advised by HO on the 'phone that these are no longer being returned routinely on next working day, but reviewed in depth. Soon after we were requested to provide substantial amount of data demonstrating/justifying recruitment for these positions, with 1-week deadline (end Nov). Letter suggested 20 working days to review.

Duly provided info, but no update from HO since. Meantime, staff already in post have had visas extended after we issued them extending non-Defined CoSs, suggesting company status remains favourable.

Email to HO enquiring as to status/timeline remains unanswered.

DCOS in the private care sector are routinely being rejected or a very limited number of a given equest are being granted for care workers. There are in excess of 7000 care workers awaiting visa cancellation. There is no need to recruit from overseas given the numbers of existing care work visa holder seeking roles.
The number of DCOS for care workers has essentially been throttled back to a tiny number pending the coming changes. Even then there will not be many DCOS for care workers.

Hi Frontier Mole,

Thanks for your input. Can I ask is that inside info that you have heard (re DCOS for care), as your moniker suggests?

HO not providing any updates on pending DCOSs, not even an estimate of timescale, and strongly suspect unofficial go-slow on issuing pending DCOSs, while they await changes to be implemented in 'Spring' (how vague and unhelpful is their use of this as a timeline?!).

Thanks again

Internal Home Office approach to care sector DCOS has essentially gone from being pretty lax & have basically whatever you requested a year or so ago. Now the presumption is not to grant until a detailed explanation and proof of work before there is any consideration. The expected fire sale that would usually happen before such a major change is being prevented by simply not issuing DCOS.
Once the new rules come into play no doubt the throttle will be backed off and there will be “catching up” with the requests knowing there will be a vastly reduced amount of interest given the restrictions that will be in place.
