Seeking past successful Irish associations applicants

Post by rohansjedi » Sun Nov 26, 2023 6:49 am

Hello -

I am preparing my application for naturalisation based on Irish associations.

I have seen a few users here who have gotten it in the past, but it won't allow me to direct message anyone. If any such person was willing, I would really love to hear further what you put in your application to describe your motives, desire, and case for a waiver as I craft my own.

Thank you for your time.

I do hope you realize that if you don't reside in Ireland, you're in for a huge wait and rather big chance of refusal? The only successful case that I remember here is from someone who lived in Ireland for a while, to get the census up, but they held his documents until he racked up a normal naturalization census.

As meself says, there are association applications that are being approved, but very few/none get residency exemptions anymore. Short of being a potential medalist for Ireland in 2028, or bringing a business that will employ 4+ figures of employees, your cover letter won’t change anything. And these applicants will already be deep in discussions with government departments who will be supporting their application - they aren’t cold applications.

Any applications short of 5 years get sat on until 5 years and then they are asked for the missing years proof of residency and process as normal. It’s why they say processing time is 30 months - it gives them two years to sit on it and 6 months to process the additional documents they request.

People apply for association now because of the exemption from 19c of the Irish Nationality Act (though it is currently suspended, so everyone exempt at the moment), not for residency exemption. (Or because they want to recognise their forebears.)

I absolutely understand. I previously studied in Ireland, and then moved to Ireland 18 months ago on a work permit. So I’m not entirely without residency (although the first isn’t considered reckonable), but short of what is required. I know it’s a long shot, but it’s a shot I’m willing to take. Circumstances are forcing me home for a while, which means giving up my permit and not having a path back without another one (which isn’t the easiest process in the world) - so even if it’s a 0.1% chance, I’m willing to try it.
