Hi folks, I applied for naturalisation in January 2021 based on my Irish citizen young child (we are both resident in Ireland). At the two year mark I emailed (for the first time) requesting an update as all the time estimates had elapsed, I essentially received a form letter email reply indicating my application was 'progressing normally'. I don't *yet* want to do a freedom of information request in my file butt perhaps soon. Any advice on what else to do but wait, and when I might decide to submit a FOI request? Thanks
I applied for naturalisation ***34 months ago***. How does one go about requesting a FOI request or judicial review? I think I'll ask my TD to follow up also based on other recent comments I see here. Any other advice is very welcome, I had thought I would long be Irish by this point.
Have you not done anything?? It's a HUGE amount of time.
You should go with both FOI and contacting your TD - I think they forgot about you (unless there's a reason for the delay, eg you committed crimes).
For FOI, it's simple, you fill out a form, send email to
foi@justice.ie with this form and your ID, get your records back. See
ireland/foi-foe-citizenship-application-t314235.html
For TD, even easier - look up your TDs on oireachtas.ie/en/members , pick one that you prefer (and maybe from the party that supports immigrants), send them an email on their Oireachtas mailbox saying "thats my name, I live in [address] (so they know you're their constituent), I havent had progress on my application for almost 3 years, havent heard from ISD, here's my application number, can you ssk them for me on
INISOireachtasMail@justice.ie ?"
I did that - they asked about my application tomorrow and I got a response the next day (forwarded to me from TD) that they're working on my application.
If none of those make progress in a few weeks, see
post2020380.html#p2020380 about a JR.
