Children Born Abroad having ILR - Which form to use

Post by venkat2010 » Sun Dec 10, 2023 3:07 pm

Hello,

I came to UK in May 2010 on Tier 1 general visa.
My wife and 2 children (Both born in India on Mar 2010 and June 2013 and came to UK later).
I got my ILR in 2015 and citizenship in 2016
My wife and kids got ILR in June 2020.

Now I want to apply for British Citizenship for my kids. Elder one is 13 years and younger one is 10 years.

Please coluld you let me know what application I have to use. Is it MN1 or AN form?
If it is MN1, Please could you let me now it comes under which section 3(5)?

Thanks in advance,
Venkat.

There is only ine form for children, form MN1. Form AN is for adults.
If it is MN1, Please could you let me now it comes under which section 3(5)?
No! They apply under section 3(1) which is the only section relevant to them that they can apply under.

Thanks for the reply.

section 3(1) -- child whose parents are applying for British citizenship

I already got British citizenship. My wife do not want to apply for citizenship now. So I am going to apply for citizenship for only children. Still this comes under section 3(1)? Reason to ask this question is section 3(1) says applying along with parents.

Thanks in advance,
Venkat.

Section 3(1) in the online form is option "OTHER", Registration at home office discretion provided one parent is already british or applying at the same time and the other parent holds ilr

Thanks for confirming this.

My son needs to go on a school trip to France in Feb 2024. Is there a faster way to get the British Citizenship in less than 2 months? I am happy to pay any extra fee if needed.

No, this application can't be expedited.

Note that once the application has been approved and certificate issued you then need to apply for a passport for child, though for that one week fast track is available.

Thanks for helping me with this.

As I am already a British Citizen and will not be filling any forms now. My wife is on ILR and she do not want to apply for citizenship now, so she also will not be filling any forms.

I am filling the MN1 form for the children. Please can you let me know, if I need to fill MN1 form separately for each child or can I include both of them in the same MN1 form?

Thanks Again,
Venkat.

Yes, both children on the online form MN1.
You fill in one first and then add the next.

Thanks for helping me with.

As I am just filling the MN1 form for both kids and not submitting any forms for me and my wife. Me and my wife both signed the parents consent form.

Does the children need to sign the section - 'Child’s consent where they are making an application on their own behalf' in the consent form? Please let me know.

Thanks,
Venkat.

Just parents' consent is sufficient.
