HELP–Home Office Verify Nationality Interview

Post by mcmjar101 » Sat Dec 09, 2023 2:16 pm

I have just received a letter from HO for an interview to verify nationality.
Came UK 2004, failed asylum 2010. Been reporting to police since 2010. Now this new letter is unusual and got us scared.

What could this mean. Previous posts suggest they are initiating a removal. Any help appreciated

It is difficult for anyone to tell you the reason for this interview.
My only guess is that they need to establish your nationality in order to understand where you are returnable to.

If you don't have an LTR at the moment then the worst outcome may be that they know your nationality or they establish it and can produce a travel document for you in a few days. Then they may detain you during the process. I remember reading about it few years ago as they did similar process in the reporting center in Sheffield.
(If I'll find the original article I'll post a link)

If you are worried you should seek legal advice as soon as possible.
If you give the wording of the letter (without disclosing your personal details) it may help guess better but in my opinion it will only be a guess as I don't think anyone can tell you the reason to it other then the wording on the letter.
I am not a lawyer or immigration advisor. My statements/comments do not constitute legal advice.

I do have a long term partner (British) since 2007 and can prove we have living together since 2016. We was just waiting for my 20years in (June 2024) to make a submission.

Is there any provision in immigration law which can give you any benefit after 20 years of overstaying?

You must be able to prove that you:

It is likely / will be an interview for you to be able start the process to be returned. They need information to apply for an ETD - emergency travel document.
