Post by Blessing2003 » Mon Dec 11, 2023 1:11 am

Hi please I will need an advice on what to do.
I have a child and I live in a bedroom flat paid by universal credit. I recently got married but my husband is in nigeria and someone told me he can't join me because UC pay my rent. I need an advice to know if this is a problem or what can I do.

Through what route? How do you meet the requirements of the family visa?

Can you keep your questions together under 1 topic and not creating new thread for each enquiry?

He's also going to be the one applying from outside the UK. So I don't know if where I live and who pays will be a problem. I would appreciate some guidance thanks.

He's moving countries and joining you in the UK, so that might change and his income does not count.
From the point of view of immigration officer, wouldn't you be better joining your husband then?

You need to meet the financial requirement.
Read the guide: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... le-version

No thanks. Besides my husband meets the financial requirements. My concern is about the house I live in. I wanted to know if that would be a barrier in his application or not.

So, you can’t even support yourself and your child, and you want to bring another person into the country?
You have to be earning £18,600 at the moment , and that is likely to rise to over £38,000 so living off benefits and off the state is not going to cut it. You’re going to have to get a job.

In the first instance, the British citizen sponsor (in this case, you) needs to meet the financial requirement, not the applicant (your husband).

Not directly. What is a barrier is that you do not meet the minimum income requirement.

Are you on maternity leave? If yes, Did you meet £18,600/year income before proceeding on maternity leave?

I'm sorry that you're in this situation. I know how difficult it could get trying to raise a baby by yourself. What you can do is apply for a visitors visa for your spouse. He can come in and help with the baby. please note that he can't stay more than 6 months and he'd have to go back.

By the time he goes back, you'd be strong enough to try and land back on your feet.

Get a job paying the entry requirement (subject to change). Work for 6 months and make the application for him to join you as your spouse.

Look at this as a 1 year project. With your current situation/condition, it wouldn't happen anytime soon.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!
