Query on Citizenship for daughter

Post by atto_lost » Mon Nov 20, 2023 5:50 pm

Hi All,
I got my British citizenship.
My wife and daughter (5 years age) have ILR since two years. We have decided that only my daughter applies for citizenship but my wife will remain on ILR. Should i make a direct application just for my minor daughter, can i do it ? what is the process, please let me know.
Thanks in Advance

Yes you can apply just for your daughter using form MN1.
Refer to the guidance here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... le-version
Online form here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... n-form-mn1

I guess this is the part that is relevant to me, straight from M1N1 form

Children with settlement and residence
Children will come within this category if:
• the child has completed a period of lawful residence in the UK of more than 5 years
• the child has been granted settled status in the UK, and held that status for at least
12 months
• the child’s parents have completed a period of 5 years residence and are settled in
the UK (“settled” usually means that the parent has indefinite leave to remain in the
UK)
• both parents give their consent to registration (unless good reasons are provided)
• there is no reason to refuse on character grounds.

If my wife and daughter both want to apply for citizenship, then should both fill citizenship form or my daughter should fill M1N1 form and my wife regular British Citizenship form ?

Your wife starts off with the AN online form and then adds daughter at the end - the system will adjust for MN1, so just one account.

If you apply online, your wife can fill it in first and then it will ask to add another applicant.
