MN1 form clarification for UK born child with no passport or visa

Post by fatemaattarwala » Fri Jan 12, 2024 8:09 pm

Hi All,

My child was born last year in UK and since we did not have any travel plans outside UK I chose not to make her passport and BRP as I will be submitting ILR application next month. I do understand this is lawfully accepted.
While filling the MN1 form, there were a few questions that are tricky to answer based on my situation. I will really appreciate your help in getting some clarity on the below queries.

1. For national identity card, when I mention 'No' for valid and expired card and also 'No' for travel document, I get the Q 'Why I am unable to provide a valid form of identification' with a text box response. Would this be an issue and cause a problem for the application? Can I mention that her only identity document is her birth certificate?
2. Also, they need national identity card or travel document as part of checklist? I dont have anything, what should I provide?
3. For the Q, Are you relying on your parent's permanent residence (either as an EEA National or the family member of an EEA National) as evidence of their settled status in the United Kingdom? - what should we answer as its not EEA related?
4. Proof of responsibility for both parents - would the birth certificate suffice?
5. What should be the content of the letter of consent?

P.S. Apologies if these questions are repetitive. I have read through all the FAQs for British citizenship but did not find answers to my situation hence this post.

Thanks in advance.

1. ID card is not required and you don’t have one either. Birth certificate is sufficient
2. ID card not required
3. Your non EU so it’s no
4. Yes birth certificate
5. Both mother and father consenting to their child applying for registration. I’ll look for a link to a format.

I see that there are 2 pages in section 7. Can I just fill that and submit, along with all other supporting documents ?

Yes, for parents' consent only points 7.1 and 7.2 are relevant .

Remember that if the child has no visa they can't use the NHS for free. I suggest considering private health insurance while waiting for the outcome of the registration application.

Thanks for calling this out. Yes I am aware, they are not entitled to free hospital treatment not overall NHS.

Hi,

Can someone please help me with the link to the referee declaration form? I have looked everywhere on gov.uk but failing to find a link.
Also, is there a different form for referee 1 and 2? I came across something like that in some post but again not sure what is the right one.

If one of the admins could please add this form in the Citizenship FAQs please, it would be helpful for others.

Thank you!

There’s only one form. You can also download it when you have submitted the application.
