Good Character Reference

Post by shahjeev » Thu Jan 18, 2024 5:03 pm

Hi Moderators,

This is a question regarding good character for naturalization.

If there are rail fare evasions (2 in this case), and settled out of court, and honestly mentioned on the application, does that affect good character?

If yes, what can be done to prove additionally to give good character evidence?

PS: these are the only 2 incidences in entire history in UK.

Sorry for an awkward question, but your guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Shajeev

If the cases were not brought to the court, if it was me, I wouldn't disclose it with the application. If you did, normally it won't affect your application. But it's 2 in a row, which is repeated cases I think it then all depends on how the casework think about.

If that happened recently I would say you are better to enquiry a solicitor.

May I ask what they were - eg a fine? If it was settled out of court still best to mention it. You paid them and are disclosing them so it shouldn't affect your application UNLESS the infractions happened very close in time to each other, which could indicate a pattern of reoffending. Could you give details of the offences and dates?
