ILR BRP - Renewal - Do they keep the old ILR ?

Post by DiazSingh » Sun Nov 26, 2023 3:44 am

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for your advice please, my BRP is expiring in Feb 2024, I have three months. For the Xmas holidays I wanted to travel to family in abroad. But since I have appointment for my document verification in Dec 2023. I wanted to find out if they keep the passport and old BRP card ?

Will I be able to travel in Dec, even after the biometrics appointment ?

Please advise.

Regards
Diaz

First of all, a BRP replacement application is NOT a visa/immigration application. Also, no physical document will ever be taken from any applicant during their Biometrics appointment. You can travel without any issues and return as long as you still hold a valid BRP

Thank you.

For the BRP Renewal, I did the following

1) Application created: 14th Nov 2023
2) Appointment Date: 28th Nov 2023 ( had early paid options, but selected a free slot for 28th Nov )
3) Application confirmation received: 28th Nov 2023
4) Decision: Pending
5) Received new card: Pending

While I was giving my biometrics details, the guy scanned all the papers of my passport, which had a stamp on it. He only scanned the latest passport and denied to scan the older passport. My passport was renewed last year only.

I had taken all the supporting documents in the physical form, he denied to check those too, as I had already uploaded all the documents online

He also didn't check my current BRP either.

The total time taken was less than 20 mins for scanning the current passport, taking photo and taking biometrics.

Note that UKVCAS are a third-party operation providing services to UKVI, they are not caseworkers and not directly involved with applications, they make sure documents as required are presented / scanned.

New ILR based BRP issued in UK while I am travelling abroad

Post by DiazSingh » Wed Jan 03, 2024 5:37 pm

Hi there,

I had come abroad after submitting my application for the ILR BRP renewal. The old BRP was expiring in Feb 2024 while I applied for BRP renewal in Dec 2023 and travelled abroad for Xmas and new year.

I have just received an email that my new BRP application was successful and I will receive my new BRP in next 7-10 days.

My worry now is that will I be able to travel back with my old BRP, will there be an issue on the arrival airport ?

Please advise.

Thanks for your help.

Diaz

BRP is used just to prove your status; your ILR doesn't end when BRP card ends.
You should be fine as is, possibly might have a quick chat to explain what happened.
Your BRP will expire next year, though, as HO is going digital.

Update:

Yesterday (28th Jan 2024), I managed to have entry back using my older BRP (while my new BRP was already delivered to my UK home address). I noticed that the immigration officer only scanned my passport in her computer machine, and she was able to pull my details. Hence the new BRP details, she already held it and didn't bother to ask me any questions regarding older BRP v/s newer BRP.

Yet, she wrote the BRP number above the entry stamp on my passport.

It only took me approximately 3 mins on the desk.

With this, I can conclude that yes, if you had applied for a new BRP and yet traveled back with the old BRP , they are still allowing it.

Best wishes,
Diaz

Where did you get this that the old brp is cancelled??

It is not. A BRP renewal is NOT an immigration application. You are simply renewing a card!! Current BRP card remains valid till expiry date.

I reported it as lost and then found it after.

The airlines won't know this, they simply need to see a valid dated document to prove your right to enter the UK.

Once you get to the UK, you can explain.
