Norway Transit

Post by pangsjil » Sun Feb 04, 2024 10:27 am

Hi,

I have a Indian Passport & UK ILR.

Planning for a US trip in August 2024 and getting Norway (OSLO Airport) transit options. I'm not intending to go out of airport. 1 Hour transit while going and 7 hours while returning. I dont have a Schengen Visa.

Question is do i need a Transit visa for Norway.

Checked online and saw following which is confusing as each of the statements are contradicting.

"A transit visa is not required to transit through Norway if you do not intend to leave the international transit area
1. Norway is a member of the Schengen Area, so if you have a Schengen visa, you can transit through Norway on your way to another Schengen country
2. However, if you are from a country that needs a visa to visit Norway, you also need a visa to transit in Norway
3. There are exceptions if you are transiting via the Oslo airport, where you may be allowed to switch flights even without a visa as long as you do not leave the International Transit Area, and you arrive and depart between 6 AM and 11 PM3. "

Depends on the airport and times that you want to transit through with.
https://www.norway.no/en/netherlands/no ... nsit-visa/
Travelers who arrive at Oslo airport for transit only, have to be aware that the transit area at the airport is closed between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Also if you're flying two different airlines (eg EasyJet to Norway and Norwegian to US), you will need to leave the transit area as you need to check in to your second flight -> need to have a visa.

Thanks.

Its same Airlines both onwards and return. Including connecting flights.

Onwards - Reaching 10:15am local time and connecting flight at 11:10 am.
Return - Reaching 08:15am local time and connecting flight at 17:10 Pm.

So its not between 11pm and 6am.

So do not need a transit visa?

Also, is it same UK passport holders too or they dont need any transit visa?

British citizens do NOT need transit visas for traveling in the EU!

Hi,

Your flight itinerary via Norway you just stated above is not between 11pm - 6am ( which is the closing hours for transit area)

So you do not need a transit visa because you won't pass through immigration since the transit area won't be closed by then.

As an Indian passport holder, you only need transit visa if you are transiting (Czechia, Germany, Spain and France)

You don't need a transit visa if flying to the USA or Canada through Norway or most EU country.Provided you're not exiting the airport!
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!
