Alternate for ILR / BRP Card

Post by pjoshi007 » Tue Feb 13, 2024 2:03 am

Hi

I completed 10 years on my BRP (ILR) which was issued in 2014. It came with an expiry date of 04.02.2024. I have applied for the replacement BRP card.

I saw many people in the forum mentioned that in 2022 and 2023 most people got their renewed BRPs within 6-8 weeks. I wanted to know what's the timescale like in 2024.

Biometrics done: 18th Jan
Place: London.

Haven't heard back from the Home office.

Please share your timelines.
Regards

I attended my biometrics appointment today in Peterborough.
Finger crossed.
A lot of people are getting their BRP within 6 weeks after biometrics so hope for good.
Any news on your BRP?

Re: New ILR based BRP issued in UK while I am travelling abroad

Update:

Yesterday (28th Jan 2024), I managed to have entry back using my older BRP (while my new BRP was already delivered to my UK home address). I noticed that the immigration officer only scanned my passport in her computer machine, and she was able to pull my details. Hence the new BRP details, she already held it and didn't bother to ask me any questions regarding older BRP v/s newer BRP.

Yet, she wrote the BRP number above the entry stamp on my passport.

It only took me approximately 3 mins on the desk.

With this, I can conclude that yes, if you had applied for a new BRP and yet traveled back with the old BRP , they are still allowing it.

Best wishes,
Diaz
Hi Diaz, I found your post very helpful. I have applied for my new BRP (ILR) replacement and gave biometrics on 18 Jan 2024. My BRP expired on 4th Feb 2024. I still have my old BRP card and I have a travel planned for 11th March. So if I travel and try to come back to the UK using my old BRP, will the airline allow me to board the plane with an expired BRP?
Did you face any issue? I am travelling via British Airways.

Thanks

Your BRP is a proof of immigration status, if expired you can not use it to gain access back. Airline will decline carriage.

@pjoshi007

DO NOT tag your queries all over the forum :!:
The advice given to others remains the same for you. Airlines will refuse boarding a visa national without a valid BRP/Visa.

There is an alternative to return if you do not have a BRP, called 'replacement BRP visa’
Leaving and re-entering the UK before getting a BRP
If you need to leave and re-enter the UK before getting a BRP, apply for a ‘replacement BRP visa’. You can also apply on behalf of a child.
A replacement BRP visa will let you re-enter the UK once only. It costs £154.

No I didn’t hear anything back. I still can open my online application on last step which tells me to book appointment.

I did mine on the 18 Jan 2024 in London. I have not heard anything back.

Would like to hear back for those who have applied for the renewals of their BRP ILR in 2024.

What's the timeline like. I understand it can take upto 6 months but want to know individual experiences.

The experiences of others have very little value as each case is unique. What others experience is not going to match yours. It has always been advised that you should expect 4-6 months for this process.

Any update on your application?
I rang UKVI and they said it could take up to 6 months for ILR application regardless if it is only replacement of lost brp

It’s very annoying.. As they don’t offer any priority service for this.. People can have emergencies to go out of country..

@Zimba I have always known this platform to be the most helpful and the valuable information members share. I have been a member for well over a decade. Each case is unique applies if they are applying for a visa. Here we all have ILR and we need to renew the BRP. No harm in knowing what someone's experience is like. For eg. Are BRP's applied from a certain area quicker than others. I have seen some get theirs in 6 weeks while mostly got in 8. Only one comment says they are still waiting after 6 months.

There is no uniform timeline, so the cases are not the same. The BRP cards will be gone very soon anyway.

I don't understand why we members cannot discuss with each other our experiences? Why we have to be told off by a moderator. You keep writing the same thing on each query. "BRPs take 6 months" "BRP's are going away". With due respect, of course we know all this through google. If we are coming here it's to also find out what others are experiencing. If it's not allowed, please mention in the guidelines and we will stop asking.

I got my BRP in less than 8 weeks. So there is a uniform timline and that is 6-8 weeks in most cases.
