baffled physical presence proof 5 years before

Post by knitter » Mon Feb 19, 2024 6:45 pm

Hi, European with settlement, certified in 2020.

I would like to apply for naturalisation (I lived here since 2001) and I came across this requirement:

"Evidence you were physically present in the UK:

For most applications this will be your passports but if your passports do not confirm this, letters
from employers, educational establishments or other Government Departments indicating
presence in UK."

Question: How do I prove I was here 5 years ago? I was not a payee nor studying.

I thought maybe a letter from my son's school? They see me every day
Or maybe a NHS proof that I attended a surgery visit?
I am truly baffled.
they don't accept bank statements....
What can I do?

many thanks you all

You are not required to prove that date - clearly it should not be in your list of absences.

You don't need a letter for that specific date, rather a collection of letters/P60s/council tax bills/benefits letters proving you lived here for 5 years. You have to make sure that on the day 5 years before you submitted the application you were in the UK and not travelling, but that will be declared on your list of trips abroad.

You mentioned you were not employed or studying 5 years ago, you will need some kind of documentary evidence like I outlined above that you were a resident here.

Thank you for the reply

I don't have a P60, since I wasn't working (full-time parent with small self-employed earnings on the side).
I could provide:

tenancy agreement
bills
council tax statement
tax return
bank statements
jury duty letter
settlement letter

maybe GP surgery appointment records if they are still accessible
maybe I could ask my son's school a letter saying that I was here
maybe dentist appointment evidence

nothing else comes to mind

any thoughts?

many thanks

I could provide:

tenancy agreement
bills
council tax statement Council tax bills for each year are fine
tax return You will need most recent tax return and SA302, if you don't have any other evidence tax returns for every year will be OK
bank statements
jury duty letter
settlement letter This wouldn't prove your residence, but the fact you have ILR

maybe GP surgery appointment records if they are still accessible
maybe I could ask my son's school a letter saying that I was here This would do
maybe dentist appointment evidence

nothing else comes to mind

any thoughts?

many thanks
I highlighted the evidence you can use. You don't need to use everything - if you have one per year it will be enough.
