Skilled Worker Extension - Earliest Application Date?

Hi All,

I am on a skilled worker visa and it expires on 21-06-2024 (as stated in the BRP). I have an important work trip in another country in June and my employer has asked me to renew the visa as early as possible. They have asked me when they should apply for the new CoS. So, when is the earliest that I can apply for the extension?.

Hi , my skilled worker visa expires in July 2024 so shall I apply for extension before 1st April 2024 ? I understand there are some new rules coming in so thought I can get it extended before that. Please advise

I also asked a similar question, but nobody has replied yet.

I checked a reddit thread and there someone said that, the CoS can only be issued three months prior to the start of employment date and the earliest an application can be submitted is 60 days prior to the expiry of your current visa.

If your visa is expiring in July, the earliest you can apply would be in May.

I think you're not receiving any response because this question has been answered many times here. The search tool will show you similar posts.

Paragraph S9.8 on the sponsor's guidance mentions:

S9.8. When you assign a CoS for an extension of permission to stay application, the start date on the CoS should be the day after their current permission expires. The worker must not apply for permission more than 3 months before the start date on the CoS.

The employer should know this - as part of their duties as a sponsor.

Thank you for the reply. I did search it but couldn't find the right thread. Apologies for that.

My employer has issued a new CoS today with work start date earlier than my current expiry (i.e. 07-06-2024).

Should I be notifying my employer of this discrepancy and request a new CoS?
