New born in India to British parents return procedures to UK

Post by PRASEE » Tue Mar 12, 2024 11:16 pm

Hello Forum,
My son was born in India. My wife and I are both British citizens with OCI. We have received our son's British passport today 12th March 2024. We are planning to return from India to UK only in May 2024. What are the formalities and legalities to be completed for my son to: -

1) Remain in India until May - Should I apply for an India visa
2) Other legal procedures with FRRO
3) What documents are asked at Indian airport immigration?

Please advise.

Thanks
Prasee

You need exit permit from your nearest FRRO office. Once that is stamped on the passport, mo other formalities.

To get the exit permit, you will need:
- evidence of mother's legal stay in India (OCI in this case)
- original birth certificate with name of mother
- foreign passport
- applicable fees to be paid

Hi @PRASEE How much time it has taken you to get UK passport from India? I am exploring options to choose between UK passport application from India or COE-ROA, Thanks :)

FYI. Prasee only posted once on the forum on March 13th 2024 and hasn't visited again since then.
