Can someone travel to Pakistan with ILR and Pakistani ID card?

Post by answerseeker1 » Fri Mar 22, 2024 11:49 am

Hi everyone!

I have a family relative that has obtained Indefinite leave to remain (ILR) for some years now in the UK after coming to UK and seeking asylum. They also have a Pakistani ID card as well.

They have tried a couple of times to prepare for citizenship tests but their English just isn't good enough. Which means they might not be able to do the tests and get British Citizenship and get a passport.

I wanted to ask, is there a way for them to be able to travel back to Pakistan for around 10-15 days with just ILR and Pakistani ID card?

I am asking because I have always thought that the only way to go back to Pakistan is get citizenship and use the British Passport.

I am not sure how travel documents work and not sure if any travel documents allow you to travel back to the country you claimed asylum from.

Many thanks!

BRP card is not a travel document and carriers would not allow you to board without a valid passport (irrespective of your UK status), not even when exiting the UK. So can't travel as far as I know.

Pakistani passport will be required.
Valid BRP needed for return

So, the person claimed asylum, yet wants to go back to the country that they fled because they were in danger there? Make that make sense. I hope Immigration Officials are watching for that.

Pakistani ID card for overseas Pakistani citizens called NICOP allows the holder to enter Pakistan without passport, not the usual CNIC but even if he is allowed to enter Pakistan with NICOP, he would need the Pakistani passport to come back to the UK.

Kindly give their immigration history and grounds on which asylum was claimed.
