Child first passport, after parents ILR and British passport

Post by tuntun2285 » Thu Apr 04, 2024 8:47 pm

Hello Team
Please help

My son was born after I had ILR.
During my pregnancy I applied for my naturalisation and was granted British citizenship just after my son was born.
I applied for my passport after my naturalisation and got it.
So by default because my son was born after I had ILR he is eligible for citizenship without applying for naturalisation.

So I applied for his first passport.. However the home office is asking for proof of mother being a citizen before the child was born and no mention of ILR status.

I tried calling the helpline who seems to be ignorant of this issue.

Please can anyone who has previously gone through this help me.

Many thanks

You must prove that you had ILR before the birth of the child.

What proof of your ILR status predating the child's birth did you provide with the application?

Thanks for the reply.

The document did not ask for any ILR proof of mine hence I had not sent any.
I do thankfully have my ILR BRP Card.
Is it ok to send it to them and write a cover letter saying my. Explanation.. Even though they haven't asked for it?

Regards

You need to send your ILR BRP card.

DON'T POST YOUR ILR CARD!! You need to make a copy of the front and the back and send it to them. You would be needing this card if this happens again later in your kids life.

This is the main evidence that you have of your child's claim to British citizenship as you can now see. Keep it safe for life.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

HMPO wants originals for first passports, can try to send a copy but unsure it will work. In any case best to have copies before sending the original.

UPDATE

For the baby's passport.

I wrote a letter explaining how the child qualifies for the citizenship.
Posted the original BRP (thank God I had not returned it)
Also sent them the giv. Uk citizenship guidelines based on year of birth and parents not citizen yet.

Passport was approved the very next day of documents revived at HMPO.

Passport delivered and all original documents returned

Thanks for the help to all
