Reviving/fixing a dead/faulty BRP NFC Chip

Post by cloud123 » Mon Jun 10, 2024 4:45 pm

This is more a tech question.

Just wondering, how would an NFC inside a BRP or Passport die and is there anyway to repair it other than obviously asking for a replacement.

I was trying to use the NFC in my BRP and noticed that it is completely dead. I have had this BRP for years, so I'm not sure if it came that way or it broke down later.

My BRP is completely dead. When I put it next to a phone, nothing happens at all. Any other NFC enabled document, like a passport or BRP, makes the phone vibrate/ping straight away.

Has anyone experienced this? Did anyone find a way to make it work again?

Thank you all.

I read online that some people tried to revive an NFC tag by putting it on the phone while using certain apps, others said that they put on as many NFC readers they could find, like card machines, gyms, etc. But that's for NFC tags. I heard also, again about tags, that they heat them up, using a hair dryer or iron, and also microwave them!!

As weird as it may sound, today I put it about 3 times on a card machine trying to charge money. Then I put it on my phone 2-3 times and it pinged my phone, the 3rd time, I used the NFC ID app, it read the details successfully and downloaded my picture from the BRP!

Then it stopped working again!!

After that I tried so many times on the card machine and without any luck!!

But the good news is, every single time I put it on the card machine, the card machine instantly says that the card is not accepted, so the NFC chip is not dead just, probably doesn't work on every device I suppose.

Any help from any fellow geeks will be appreciated!
