I explained and requested if it can be extended and she said it doesn't work like that..and the next appointment is probably in January😭
Should I just go to the ceremony and see if they accept my GNIB or postpone it? And my travel document were they not suppose to return it back? Cuz I need to show my travel document on ceremony day..?!
Did you get sorted?

I'm in similar situation with IRP expiry which is due to expire on Wednesday and I have been waiting 3 months for an appointment. So after you posted here and saw others suggesttions I contacted the garda and told them I'm expecting to be invited to the citizenship ceremony on June. they replied and said we will put you on cancellation list. 2 hours later I got an appointment for the coming Monday!

So please try with the garda again and explain that you will not be allowed to attend the ceremony if you have expired IRP .

For me I still haven't received an approval or invitation yet , so I'm starting to lose hope to be included in the upcoming ones.
Hey man ,did you received your travel document back by Justice ?
My friend is in similar situation, his travel document was asked to be sent back and he only holds Valid IRP .

According to other posts, usually they don't return travel documents if they are expired. If they have driving licence that should do , otherwise I don't think It will be an issue as the department already have it with them and they will collect it anyway during the ceremony.

You can request to have it back.. I sent them email and they returned mine.. you need to get it back because they will ask for your travel document at the ceremony..

Well ,ll send them an email but it may not get back on time.
But still he has an irp which is valid and perhaps copy of his travel document as the original has been returned to DOJ.

Hi , are sure ? Because if they send it and it's not arrived by the time of ceremony he maybe refused entry? Sorry I should have asked earlier.
We both same day ceremony.he is recognised refugee and I was on Spouse .my ceremony is 20th but I only have IRP and learner permit as my Passport is with my embassy for renewal (they collect old passport as part of the process).
My friend had refugee travel document which was returned to them and he only posses IRP and perhaps PPS card (no passport from his country (Syria).

Does anybody know if they have any ID verification request for the guest of the ceremony ? Would the guest need to provide any sort of documents such as passport , IRP, etc ?

I don't think they would check the guest's information. I see no point as this would add more work. The email doesn't say anything about that either.

So we have to wait 10 weeks after the ceremony for the certificate or do they hand them out now?

Hi
I accompanied my husband as a guest at Monday's ceremony in Killarney.
No, I wasn't asked for any ID.
The ceremony was terrific.

Sorry I didn't read it properly. Nothing for the guest. I was the guest. Nothing asked. My wife was the candidate. She was asked the documents.

Does anybody know if they retain your current IRP at the citizenship ceremony or do you get it back? I'm more than happy to finally get invited and complete the naturalisation process but I'm now concerned that if you lose your IRP after the ceremony and you have to wait weeks/months for the certificate and then more weeks to apply and receive an irish passport then you are effectively blocked from traveling.

Anyway, I have a trip abroad planned I cannot cancel or reschedule 3 weeks after the ceremony. If they retain your IRP I guess I'm going to have a "nice time" explaining myself when I return to Ireland than I'm a citizen but I don't have any proof, just some old stamps in the passport from my original country.

The confirmation of registration email says the certificates will be sent by registered post within about two weeks.

I read that but there are also enough anecdotes in the forum from previous ceremonies earlier this year with folks waiting ~10 weeks to get their certificate in the post. I really hope they improve on this but I'm not 100% counting on it for now.

It would be amazing if that's the case. I'll keep an eye on the forum to track new citizens progress from June 2024 ceremonies.

From what I saw on a few of the Facebook groups, it sounds like the last set of ceremonies was the first one with the new format on the certificates, without photos on them, so there was some speculation that the delay was due to this being sorted out. Nothing but speculation though, but I'm hoping that's the case and that we are back to a more "normal" waiting time for the certificates this time.

Hi everyone,

My first ever post on immigrationboards :D
Please note, they do not ask for travel document on the Ceremony. It was the case when I was a guest for my friends ceremony. All they checked was valid IRP not even the driving license, even though my friend had the driving license and PSC card ready to show them as proof of identity. You do not need your Travel doc back for the purposes of the ceremony. I hope this helps. Thanks

Kind regards

Well, there was an issue with the Printer last time which is why it took the over 10 weeks. You can see Minister explaining the situation: https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/debates/qu ... ertificate
