Lost UK citizenship certificate with wrong place of birth

Post by GeorgeJ » Fri Jun 28, 2024 2:56 pm

Hi everyone, I was about to apply for my 1st British Passport but I might have lost the certificate.

I have a found a photo of the certificate when I noticed the place of birth is wrong, unfortunately I am past the 3 months window to inform HO of the error.

I am aware of the £400 fee for getting a new copy but not sure how to approach HO with the above.

Shall I ask and pay for a replacement copy first and then note the error or vice versa?

It is a stressful situation to be in, please if anyone can advise I would be very grateful!

I would just ask for a correction, rather than a replacement (so you just do the procedure once). Or do you need to send in your original certificate to get a replacement?

You normally need rhe original certificate to get a correction done. So that will be problematic as the OP has left it so long.

The original cert not needed for a replacement if a cert is lost!
