Hi all,

Thank you for the fantastic community effort. I have received contradictory information from the FBR office when I have called up to check on wait times, so this thread and spreadsheet are a great help! I've been told today that I should expect a further 6 months wait, which would take the wait time up to 15 months (from 9-10 months). Does this match with what others have been told?

I'm trying to move to Brussels with my partner and have began receiving job offers that are pending work eligibility, so the uncertainty around the timeline is proving difficult when negotiating with potential employers (employers are generally are very reluctant to pursue visa sponsorship but obviously need a reliable timeline for citizenship).

Hi ,

Who told you to expect a further 6 months ? (you called the FBR office and provided your application number ) . I dont remember a time where those people tell accurate info TBH.

Is your application straight forward with documents ? (If not they might be right)

I can see that you are still at 8 months from confirmation email () , did you apply within Ireland ?

Hi @teranos,

I called the FBR office, I didn't get as far as providing my application number. It's true that I've called a number of times and each time get a different estimate, but none as late as the recent one.

I applied outside of Ireland (England), and my application should be straightforward with all the documents.

I noticed from the spreadsheet that one of the recently approved ones (DC, 609) says there is a 2-3 month wait on printing. So, including delivery times etc, perhaps there will be a 6 month wait before I have a certificate in my hands and can apply for a passport.

Thanks!

i called FBR this morning.....about my wife's application made in January. Told they are currently taking 12-15 months and not to expect anything until November by way of update.

Very helpful but looks like a bit slower than expected.

Yes. A glut of FBR & passport applications has stretched their personnel thin.Right now they are starting to get through July 2023 applicants....slowly. I also think they are more picky now about documents & ask for more documents more often. Which means delays for those people. Patience is key and you're application is down the road for now.

HI Quick question
ref this section 8. Make sure you use the same witness for everything - stamp not needed but a business card is accepted no problem. I asked them to use the words - certified to be a true copy of the original seen by me; followed by name, job, date and signature for all documents.

i have all my stuff signed and ready to go but regarding my dads photocopy of his passport, will he need his witness to provide a stamp/ business card or can they just certify as you mentioned above and sign?
Parents ID needs to be certified by a witness from the list.Statement, sign, dated by a witness. No card is needed. I advise you get it notarized . I tell people to notarize everything if they can. Once notarized it's a government approved entity.

Looking at other peoples recent experiences, it seems to be taking 10-12 months. They'll always overshoot just to ensure that you're not hanging on for something before it's ready. Here is to hoping they get back to the 9 month timeline it was taking a month or two ago :)

Called the FBR helpline today out of curiosity as it has been 11 months now. Gave her my reference number and confirmed various details. She could see it was with the case worker and that no other documents are required (phew 8) ) and therefore it was with the case worker to conclude / approve currently.

My documents posted 13. July 2023 and after a long wait after the address check (8. April 2024) I received my congrats email yesterday. It seems like a few other people are filtering through, so hopefully whatever hold-up they had this spring is being resolved now. Can't be much longer! Good luck.

By 'documents posted' I mean I received my confirmation email for receipt of documents on that day. Apologies for the ambiguity.

Hello! I've been following this forum for a while to help me get an idea of how long the process takes and I'm happy to say my application has finally been approved :D

It took me about 18 months since I hadn't submitted the photocopy of my ID that contained the witness's signature confirming true likeness etc. so this had to be resubmitted.

Timeline:

Application submitted: 21/12/2022
Documents received: 09/01/2023
Request for more documents: 27/11/2023
Documents received: 04/01/2024
Address check: None
Congrats email: 24/06/2024
Certificate delivery: Pending

Hope this helps others!

These might be silly questions but do they send you your original versions back eventually?

Also, for the witness - I see some of the comments here say they got the witness to sign everything, but on the form itself, it says Application form, 2 photographs, photo ID of myself, photo ID of parent - is this just folks being extra prepared, or should I have them sign everything?

My parents are divorced, but my mom's last name is the same, should I attach the divorce certificate? It doesn't say to.

Ok, that's it! Thanks everyone!

Yes, you get all your documents back.
Just get the witness to sign the application form/photos & the copy of ID's.
If you are able to provide the divorce certificate, I recommend you send it. It is an official document that helps DFA "link" people & generations.

Hiya,

Apologies for my last post was trying to respond to someone else's comment!

I hope someone can give me some advice, I applied to the FBR in March and got confirmation of my documents being received in early May. I have recently found out I am an expectant parent and have contacted the FBR offices with proof of pregnancy, however, I am not due until early next year and the office told me the expedition is based on due date however I'm quite anxious as have been estranged from my dads side of the family its been a mare getting the documents and unsure If will need to resend something as I forgot to get my witness to write my application number on my photos.

Could anyone advise me on what to expect timeframe wise?

Thanks so much 😊☘️

Applied online - 17 March
Confirmation of docs received - 3rd May
Contacted FBR Re pregnancy and sent proof - 5th June
Confirmation that my application had been forwarded to relevant team - 5th June

All original certificates are returned when process is complete.

Witness signs, dates & stamps 2 of 4 EU sized photographs. Also put application number on photos.Do NOT attach photos to application. Put in a small envelope & label it.
Witness also signs & dates your ID. Witness also does the application itself -must see you sign & date the application.
Make sure all dates are the same.

The same or a different witness can sign & date the parent ID.
Parent may live far away so this is why witness can be different.

Yes -Include divorce papers too.

Hi team,

What a fantastic thread this is. Thanks to all the participants.

Applied online: 01/09/23
Application form & Docs posted: 01/09/23
Application form & Docs Delivered: 13/09/23
Request for additional Docs : 04/07/24

I had submitted my Irish grandmothers marriage certificate (married in the UK) but it was a certified copy. The have since responded to say:

Documents relating to xxxx xxxx (unless stated, originals must be submitted):

Original civil marriage certificate of Irish born grandparent (if applicable) OR other change of name document (if applicable) – photocopies, certified copies or church certificates are not accepted. You submitted a certified copy of the marriage certificate.

The original is absolutely long gone. But the certified copy was stamped in 2002.

My question is: A certified copy is legally binding and in fact true original copies are held by the officiators (birth/ marriage etc). Therefore would the correct course of action be to order a new certified copy from the GRO website and have that notarised?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

For immigration and identity purposes, any formal document issued by GRO (or equivalent government department in any country) is the original copy. It does not matter how many times or when it has been ordered and re-issued, all GRO issues documents are the/an ‘original.’ The 17th copy you order is no less ‘original’ than a copy issued at the time of the event.

It does not need to be notarised (and indeed should *not* be altered or copied if they require original) just submit the actual physical version GRO send to you.

Also what is considered a legally binding document is not globally standard but determined by domestic law. So UK laws on that aren’t relevant for Ireland etc. In some countries only domestically certified copies count, in others certification is only valid for eg 3 months. Some countries only recognise dates certifications, others don’t require it.
