Hi guys, I applied BRP - ILR card renewal on 13th of April. It’s been 10 weeks but still no news. I need to travel abroad in August. Has anybody waiting for this too? I would appreciate if you could write how long your BRP renewal take. Thanks

It can take up to 6 months.

Brps are being phasedd out and if you get one, it will expire in December this year anyway.

Thanks a lot for your reply. Yes, I’am aware of that. I have e-visa but I don’t think airline will accept for boarding . Hopefully it won’t take 6 months.

If you've recently applied for a replacement BRP (ILR), can you please share how long it took? I have to travel mid September but only just applied for my replacement so I think I won't get it in time

As I hold a Canadian passport, I think I can still travel back into the UK though as we don't require visas (and I also have the eVisa associated with my passport). I'm just worried the airline will ask for visa or proof of return ticket when I board. When I traveled back in May, the border officer just told me to "go online and link my BRP" -- and let me in even though my BRP was expired. I don't like this lack of clarity

I guess your Canadian passport helped you to board the flight back to the UK, and airline staff didn't care much about the expired BRP. A visa national travelling with an expired BRP might face a different and potentially unpleasant situation.

UKVI is recommending to still use the physical BRP card until the end of this year.

I would like to think that the Home Office already started informing every airline or carrier operating in the UK about this, but they cannot control when these companies will inform/train their employees abroad.

They won't. Non-visa nationals will face no issues boarding a flight to the UK

I am sorry to say but they have no idea about e-visas and haven’t got any update from Home Office. I have been told that I need to valid BRP card.

Hi everyone, I just received an email from UKVI ( I am surprised they work on Sunday) They’ll be sending my brp card between 7 to 10 days. Exactly 11 weeks took. Hope everyone gets theirs before their trip.

After you submitted your Biometrics and the 3rd party agency submitted your docs/biometrics for you, did you receive a confirmation from UKVI that they have received your application?

I only have an email saying my online application was submitted from before I booked my biometrics appointment, and then one from Sopras saying they submitted my docs. Nothing since then from UKVI though.

I haven’t receive any email from UKVI until yesterday. Same as you, I only received from 3rd party emails after application and Biometrics.

UKVI does not send such confirmation. Attending UKVCAs appointment means your application and docs has been submitted to UKVI for processing

Are you guys counting the weeks from when you did the online application or from the date you gave your biometrics? I’m in a similar situation. I have applied for a renewal in May 2024 and still waiting. I’m aware it can take up to 6 months. I also have travel plans so I’m a bit concerned. I don’t need a visa to enter uk but i do not want to risk it without the brp card. I have also tried to create an account on ukvi with my old brp to see if there’s anything on there but nothing is linked yet.

If you are a non-visa national, you may travel as normal without a BRP and return. There is no risk of anything.
BRPs will soon be gone as explained above.

I did count from the date of biotmetrics. It took 11 weeks from biometrics and 15 weeks from online application.

As Zimba said you can to travel without BRP as non visa national.

I know we can enter the country as non-visa nationals, however, do we then need to provide proof of length of stay, return ticket etc? That's the part I'm not clear about ... I know I have ILR but if I can't 'prove' it without a valid BRP card, then I'd be treated as a tourist and have to leave within 6 months. Would I have to show onward travel?

The act of being admitted to the UK administratively confirms admission under the existing leave, if you have one.
This is even true when an eligible national with existing leave is admitted to the UK via eGates: viewtopic.php?t=345753#p2158613

ILR means you have settled status but such status does NOT depend on the validity of the BRP card at all. Your immigration status is not lost after expiry as ILR is NOT a limited leave to remain (ILR means indefinite leave to remain)

So If you hold settled status, you will effectively be admitted as an ILR holder. If asked, you can explain that you have ILR status and provide old BRP. The border officer can verify your settled status on their system and you will be admitted without any issues as s settled resident.

I did it via https://www.gov.uk/get-access-evisa and to be honest, I stumbled through most of it as the process is really clunky. I would suggest waiting for the email from Home Office and following their guidance as the process is only in BETA testing and they are trialling it with a small group. I'm by no means qualified to give any advice on this.

I went in circles with The ID app didn't as it pick up my BRP card via NFC, I think I changed it to my passport eventually but can't 100% remember as it took me a few days to complete and the whole experience was disjointed (I work in digital so have a good idea how good digital change should be implemented, this was not a good example).

So I would wait until they are out of the BETA phase so hopefully some issues get ironed out.
