Right Of Abode (ROA)

Post by nihao » Fri Aug 02, 2024 7:42 pm

Good evening all,

My girlfriend is Malaysian and holding a Malaysia passport. Also she also got the the British Citizenship. Understand Malaysia is not allow dual citizenship.

She is thinking to apply for the certificate of entitlement (Right Of Abode). As she hasn't got the British passport. She will be apply outside the UK (in Malaysia) because her passport is going to expired soon.

1. Does anyone here have knowledge of this ROA application (outside UK) please? The online application form is a bit confusing.

2. If her application is successful, she is not sure if Malaysia authority allowed or recognised the certificate of entitlement on a Malaysia passport?

Please share your thought and advise. Thanks

How did she become British?

ROA is issued for the same validity as a foreign passport and has to be reapplied for each time a new passport is applied for.

She applied the British Citizenship in the UK (from IRL).

She understand the ROA validity. She can't confirm this will the best route to apply for the ROA as she doesn't want to get the British passport yet.
