Only one application to be submitted with the current passport details. The expired passport will be physcially checked and given back to you whilst appointment. Current passport will be taken and returned with cancelled status.

Timelines for my spouse passport surrender:

Application Submitted : 22-Apr-2024 at VFS Leicester.
Application Status : 22-Apr-2024 – Passport application along with fee details have been received. The same is under processing at the Embassy/Consulate.
Application Status : 23-Apr-2024 – Surrender Certificate is under review at Indian Embassy
Application Status : 24-Apr-2024 – Surrender Certificate is granted and is available for issuance
Application Status : 24-Apr-2024 – Surrender Certificate has been printed
Delivery SMS : 25-Apr-2024 – DX delivery SMS received
Delivered : 26-Apr-2024 – DX delivered Surrender Certificate and Cancelled Indian Passport.

Documents :
1) Appointment letter print out.
2) Application form with Photo (2” inch X 2” inch) attached and signed on both the pages where needed.
3) VFS Declaration form.
4) Extra 1 Photo (2” inch X 2” inch) taken separately.
5) British Passport Original - Checked and returned at the VFS counter.
6) Naturalisation Certificate Original - Checked and returned at the VFS counter.
7) Indian Passport Original - Retained and was told that it will be cancelled and delivered along with the passport surrender certificate. Paid for secure delivery at the VFS counter.

Note: I forgot to mention her UK Passport # in the form. In the VFS, they asked me to a new one and mail it to them, which they printed and then submitted the new application. The original appointment letter was used. This goes for any mistake in your application, just submit a new one then and there.

Hi everyone,

Surrendered my Indian Passport at VFS Goswell on 9th July and paid for tracking and dxd courier.

Until now - no tracking status received. No emails, No messages.
Cannot track it on passport seva as well.

I contacted VFS and they said my application is still in process.

Its been over a month and I'm due to travel to India in November.

Anyone had a similar experience recently?

Hi everyone,

Surrendered my Indian Passport

Application Submitted: 5th August 2024 at VFS Edinburgh (paid for tracking and dxd courier).

There was no tracking status received. No emails.
Cannot track it on passport Seva as well.

So contacted VFS (02037938629) on 13th August 2024. and they said my application is still in process.

Delivery SMS : 14-August-2024 – DX delivery SMS received
Delivered : 15-August-2024 – DX delivered Surrender Certificate and Cancelled Indian Passport.

1) I've booked renunciation appointment for the morning and surrender appt. for afternoon. Would that be okay or do they retain Indian passport for renunciation?

2) Do I need 2 separate sets of Indian passport copy, naturalization certificate, UK address proof etc. for each appointment, or do they not retain any of the documents?

3) Where do I specify what address I want the certificates to be delivered? I won't be in the country to receive renunciation certificate and would like to give a friend's address.

4) Am I okay to print Indian passport page copies double sided?

Lots of questions, but I'm sure they'll help other visitors as well. Many thanks!

Thanks Sathya. Can we submit applications for surrender and OCI at the same appointment then?No you can't have same appointment for both. You need surrender certificate to apply for OCI
