Employment for naturalisation

Post by ClaraLondon7 » Tue Aug 20, 2024 5:23 pm

Dear members! I have ILR in UK. Soon after 12 months being on ILR , I am eligible to apply for British citizenship. In the application form there is a field with regards to the employment. Before applying for BC in 2024 I worked only for 6 months. I wanted to run by you a couple of questions:

- Is it a must to have a job before applying for British citizenship?
- If somebody is self-employed what documents do they need to provide?
- If i answer- not employed -can it be the reason for refusal?

My understanding is that the employment, any employment including being self-employed is not the requirement at all and one can choose not to work for some time. Thank you in advance.

- If somebody is self-employed what documents do they need to provide? HMRC Self Assessment Accounts SA....
- If i answer- not employed -can it be the reason for refusal? No. There are specific reasons for refusals, mainly based on statutory requirements. And employment is not a statutory requirement.

My understanding is that the employment, any employment including being self-employed is not the requirement at all and one can choose not to work for some time. you were correct after all - taking breaks from employment is also not an issue as economic activity is not a requirement. Thank you in advance.
